JCB Fastrac 8250 is a 250 Hp brute with a Cummins QSC 8.3 engine coupled to a Fendt Agco ML 260 Transmission…..not a bad machine on paper!
Reason for Job:
This tractor has covered over 10,000 hours, due to this the engine had developed a number of age/fatigue related oil leaks including;
Rear crank seal, sump gasket, front crank seal, head gasket and rocker cover. Therefore, the customer decided to give the engine a full re-fresh!
Main problems found:
Once we got the engine stripped, in addition to the above oil leaks we found the following:
Liners had started to suffer with pitting on the water jacket (see photos)
Fuel pump and injectors were out of tolerance
Turbocharger diaphragm split
Front and rear dampers badly worn
Compressor very tired
Remove engine from tractor
Complete strip down and rebuild of the engine which included:
New liners, pistons and rings, oil pump, crank shells, front and rear dampers, complete gasket kit and both crank seals
The cylinder head, turbocharger, fuel pump, injectors and air compressor were completely overhauled
The engine was re-fitted into the tractor before a long day of testing which included 90 minutes on dynamometer and a long road test
